A Very Rough Guide To Birds
Artist Book by Rachel R Turner
£26

Salisbury Crags, Edinburgh Postcard
Made by Rachel R Turner
£2

Rachel Turner has lived and worked in Edinburgh ever since graduating in 2012 from the Edinburgh College of Art with a Degree in Painting & Drawing. Inspired by many things, this beautiful city, corroding coastlines, the natural world and life’s little mysteries, Rachel has created a variety of illustrated goodies. She enjoys devising and completing self started projects, working on commissions and exploring the boundaries of illustration – with some weirder fine art stuff on the side! Rachel has created a beautifully unique artist book for our Gallery, The Very Rough Guide To Birds. This passion project began with a birthday gift comprising of a second hand rocking chair and a pair of binoculars. Rachel could now stare out her top floor flat window and watch the birds fly by much more effectively! Made with a lot of love and humour, unusually printed onto newsprint paper and hand bound and finished, this garden bird edition ‘guide book’ is a perfect gift for the novice bird-watcher! Also by Rachel are the Salisbury Crag Postcards which feature an abstract interpretation of Edinburgh’s famous Crags of Arthur’s Seat. The illustration was originally drawn in situ, in the shadow of the Seat and these printed postcards have been hand finished with an ink stamp and signature. These are lovely mementos!

P.S. Rachel is also one of our lovely Red Door worker bees, and gets very excited seeing our customers enjoying her work!

Bubble Ceramic Dishes
Made by Emporium Julium Ceramics

Emporium Julium Ceramics is artist Julija Pustovrh, originally from Slovenia now living and working in Edinburgh and with a background in Landscape Architecture. Julija has always drawn inspiration from nature. Exploring the fine line between real and imaginary plant worlds and looking at forms, structures and patterns in micro and macro scales. Creating unusual pieces with uniquely flexible functions! Her beautiful Bubble Ceramic Dishes are handmade and each one completely unique due to the organically unpredictable nature of their bubbly glaze which is inspired by snowy landscapes and stars in the winter skies. The Marbled Clay Ceramic Plant Holders are ceramic disks made from different recycled clays mixed with sand from various beaches in Scotland. Julija has collected sand from remote coasts around Scotland in order to explore connections between Scottish landscapes and their coastal features. Love it!
