Within a Mile of Edinburgh Town
£ 90.00
‘ Within a Mile of Edinburgh Town ’ is part of a folio of 8 screenprints celebrating traditional Scottish folk songs – some well known like ‘Skye Boat Song’, ‘Loch Lomand’ and ‘Ae Fond kiss’ and includes some lesser known works such as ‘The Scottish bluebells’ too. It is delightful to see these traditional Scottish songs reinterpreted and brought up to date by Emily’s tradmark style.
In his book studing Scottish folk songs written before Robert Burns, Robert Chambers says this song ‘is a noted example of those composed by English wits in imitation of the Scots Manner, and which were, with little discrimination, accepted as Scots songs in Scotland itself. It is wholly of English origin; the verses by Thomas D’Urfey, and the air by Mr James Hook.’ Within a Mile of Edinburgh Town is great song and print which would suit any couple with a combined Scottish and English herritage, and a sense of humour.
Originally created as paper cuts, this Screenprint has been taken directly from the hand papercut piece and printed in a limited edition of 30.
