Illustrator Hattie Clark is about to delight us with a delivery of her prints to The Red Door Gallery including some super new designs. Therefore we think it’s the perfect time to introduce you to this brilliantly vivacious artist and her beautifully, bubbly work!
Autumn Pup

Hattie Clark is based in Yorkshire, UK and has loved drawing from an early age. She studied at Leeds College of Art before completing a degree in Graphics Communication at Bath School of Art and she is now a freelance illustrator. Hattie’s work is distinctively groovy with her use of bold, wobbly line and bright, vivid colours. She creates the characters that feature in her illustrations to be as joyful as possible in order to make us smile. And when we saw her latest A3 print Autumn Pup, we were beaming. Hattie’s pooch prancing through the leaves is adorable and has been illustrated with a real zest for life. It also captures all the drawing textures Hattie has wielded to achieve such a rich, hearty image!

Inspiration for Hattie can be found pretty much anywhere, so we can look forward to plenty more prints to enjoy by this artist. She draws ideas from everyday life including friends, strangers, nature and books. News articles, fashion and little moments of silliness and nonsense can all fuel Hattie’s creative fire! The risograph print Fringe Problems is a perfect example of a simple observation transformed into a strikingly, stylish artwork to which a fair few of us can relate! This blunt bob illustration created with inky black brush strokes is a dazzler and a monochrome must.

Hattie has created another new print that has us rubbing our hands together in delight. We think this Autumnal Leafy Lady risograph radiates some super, snuggly vibes with all those lovely layers of winter woollies, leafy shapes, pencil patterns and vibrant inks. A beautiful illustration to brighten up your indoor environment ready for hibernation, and to also bring about that love for nature. For although it is cold out there, it’s still fantastic to get out and stroll amongst those crisp, Autumnal displays of colour and crunch – and we’re pretty sure Hattie would agree!
Leafy Lovers

Hattie’s approach to illustration is all about working with her hands as much as possible. A lover of the inky line she enjoys working with fluid, dynamic materials including crayon, pencil, paint, collage and ink (of course) as well as various printing processes such as screen printing and risograph printing, both very hands on! It is thanks to these simple, by hand approaches that make Hattie’s work so full of energy and exude such a lively spirit. There are very lovely expressive textures to be found in her Leafy Lovers print, truly a wonderfully romantic illustration that’s got us swooning!
