Adventures with Clay’s Process.
The starting point of this process is the potters wheel. First I’ll wedge up some balls of clay, and I’ll sit at the wheel and usually the clay tells me what it wants to be. The piece will stay on its batt but is removed from the wheel and set aside. After a while it will be leather hard and it will pop off the batt and I’ll trim It. Then it’s back onto the shelf until it’s bone dry. Finally it has its first firing to 100C degrees, which is the biscuit firing, turning the clay into ceramic. And then comes the fun of glazing! I use a variety of glazes and different application techniques before firing again at around 1220C which results in unique colourful pieces! No two are ever the same.
