It’s August in Edinburgh so naturally it’s raining outside, if you are curled up with a cup of cocoa and a feline friend or cainine chum perhaps you’re wishing it was raining cats and dogs outside too? There are certainly plenty of kitties and pooches to inspire this weeks #fridayfavourites here in The Red Door and we couldn’t be happier!
Lindsey Brown’s collection of Cat portraits focus upon capturing identifiable breeds of cats. Above you can meet the Silver Tabby and here, the Main Coon Cat. They are digital prints taken from original pen and ink drawings, and as is her usual style, Lindsey has made the most of the beautiful textures and patternation in the cats fur. Each eye shade and little pink nose is hand tinted, giving a real catty quality to the prints. We have been delighted to welcome in this handsome pack of dog portraits from Ros Shiers. They are so beautifully detailed that I reccomend having a peep at the larger images in her page, here. Each dog is drawn from a pup that Ros meets whilst out for a walk with her own puggle, Baily [presumably on sunnier days]. They are originally drawn with a trusty pencil, then converted into high quality digital prints.
Ros has also captured portraits of other animals, including the odd cheeky cat, [this one is called ‘Cooper’] and a selection of animals which are reduced at the moment too, see the Deer, Fox, Owl and Hare on sale here.
Charlotte Farmer loves cats, dogs, screenprints and speach bubbles, so if you can tell the difference between a ‘mew’ and a ‘miaw’ or a ‘woof’ and a ‘wooooof’ then this is the lady for you. And if you like dogs and speak their language, why not show it through your choice of pencil case? Designed by Gemma Correll to make you smile.
If you’d like to wear your cat close to your heart, we have some beaufitul kitty jewellery by Hello Sunshine. And for the ‘crazy cat lady’ in your life, we have some wool brooches by Scottish textile designer, Wee Beauties which should appear online soon. These beautiful, styalised black kitties have arrived in recently from Magda Boreysza and Pleased to Meet. Magda has a great selection of prints, new in this very day.
We hope you’ve enjoyed a little tour of our favourite cats and dogs, and we look forwrad to the sunny days kicking in again, keep your eyes on the weather forecast…
Have a great weekend.xx
