Lindsey Brown’s much anticipated exhibition at The Red Door Gallery, has been up to prieview this week, please come to our exhibition opening this Thursday October 23rd from 6.30 to 8 pm.
Lindsey Brown’s stunningly detailed exhibition features a myriad of Racoons, Eagles, Owls and other Wildlife and Birds of Prey. This is Lindsey’s first collection of new works to be exhibited in around 2 years and there are a lot of Edinburgh locals keen to see the results! The below “Little Owl Love” is one of Lindsey’s most recognisable and loved pieces.
Lindsey’s intricate line work is originally created with her trusty Mapping nib and Indian ink, a traditional illustrator’s tool. What separates this artist’s work from traditional illustration is her love of pattern, which she explores across the coats of the animals, or bird’s plumage and across the composition it’s self. Working largely in the monochrome, this series of black and white studies represents Lindsey’s very direct motives, to strip back her work to the foundations of pose, composition, line and pattern. Lindsey’s ability to capture the most complex of animals with weight and detail bestows each character she creates a depth of personality that endears beyond the two dimensions of a print.
Lindsey Brown is an Edinburgh based illustrator and designer, whose devotion to drawing in the monochrome was established in her Edinburgh College of Art Degree Show in 2007. Having graduated with a BA Hons in Fashion Design, Lindsey returned to do an MA in Illustration at ECA in 2009-2010.
