It’s International Women’s Day. A day that has been celebrated since 1911. Let’s stand tall with all those inspiring ladies in our lives both past and present. Let’s be roll models for the little ladies of the future and let them see they can go out and achieve whatever they want and to use their voice for the greater good.
In 2017 the fight is stronger than ever to be whoever and whatever we want to be no matter our gender. Ladies and men across the world have been fighting the good fight for gender equality for years, let’s keep spreading the word. We Got This Ladies!
Strong female figures have been a massive influence to artists and designers around the world, many of the artists behind our Red Doors have brought their love for them alive in print. Here are some of our favourites from behind our red doors.
Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History! Princess Leia, the kick ass princess we all wished we were. A great roll model for all ladies past and present. The late Carrie Fisher was well known for championing Women’s rights. We’re sure she would have loved this print. The perfect print for the strong ladies in your life.
Showing us all you can be whoever you want to be. The much loved Jessica Fletcher in Murder She Wrote, played by Dame Angela Lansbury. Fictional writer turned super Sleuth solving crimes faster than the detectives could. Super lady herself Victorija of And Smile illustrates fabulous strong women both fictional and well known.
Another inspirational lady, beautifully illustrated by Viktorija is the late great Frida Kahlo. A strong female figure respected the world over.
Frida once said about herself:
“I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me, too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it’s true I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you.”
A strong statement that many of us can relate to, from a unique and colourful lady. Wear your love for Frida with pride in this cute pin by And Smile
The much loved Gemma Correll has touched many a heart with her illustrations depicting the everyday life of being a women, warts and all.
It sometimes feels like she’s reading our minds. She makes us feel like we’re not alone with her quirky style, and that we can all feel a little socially awkward sometimes.
I’m sure many of us can relate to The Perils of Overthinking.
We love thi range of ceramic brooches and bowls by Rebecca Brown, With so many amazing facial expressions they are so hard to choose from. These ladies look like pretty cool cats that couldn’t really give a f**k! ? We’re pretty sure they would love to hang out on your lapel or jumper though. They’ve got the glare down perfectly. Daria would be proud! These are available from the gallery and will be online this week.
We have to end this blog on the super new card arrival by Heather More. It’s inspired this blog title and really hits home on what today has been about. We got this ladies!
